Market Research

Research Problem(s) Studied

One problem that I could foresee with my product is that students won’t be aware of the services being offered. Another problem is the class format not being as tangible as it needs to be. One final problem I could see for the class is topics covered in class are not relevant to the emergencies or dangerous situations that people experience in today’s time.

I have chosen to do an interview style of research. I have chosen to do this
because I believe that it is important to get a variety of perspectives when it comes to marketing the product and I feel as though an interview will do that, especially if I ask open ended questions

Research Instrument

simple black question mark.jpg
  • What do you define as an emergency?

  • On a scale of 1-10, with 1 = knowing nothing and 10 = expert, what would you rate your current level of emergency preparedness?

  • What specific emergencies are you most concerned about?

  • Have you attended any emergency preparedness courses before? If so, what did you find the most valuable?

  • Are there any types of skills or knowledge you feel like you lack when it comes to emergency preparedness?

  • Have you ever been in an emergency? If so, how did you handle it?

  • What motivates you to learn about emergency preparedness?

  • Do you have any prior training in an emergency preparedness or first aid?

Part Two

For this market research I interviewed 4 people. They were all college students, aged from 20-23 years old. They were all African American, with them being two women and two men. They all agreed that an emergency preparedness class would be beneficial for them to learn about. I learned that everyone has a different definition of what an emergency is, so when it comes to what motivates them to, it all varies. But the answers were so authentic just because of how life is and what can happen in life.

Another thing that I learned from this research is that gun violence is very prominent in the United States, and it is something that one can’t naive about. All of them said they would like to learn about to aid to someone who got shot, or they feel like when it comes to gun violence, they feel like that is knowledge that they simply lack. I feel as though with these results, I know what topics that people are concerned about so I can offer to teach that through marketing. I know what concerns the people the most, and I can make sure to include incentives or motivating stories in my marketing.
